True Blood - Seasons 1-3

I think True Blood is fun to watch and have been following all three seasons thus far. It's too bad that there has been so little in the series in terms of superhuman displays of strength by hot female vampires. There are a couple of supernatural characters who showed the occasional mini strength feat, but it really wasn't much.

Anyway, here's my brief summary of the ubergirls of the first three seasons and their short moments of ubergirlishness ;-). I'm doing this off the top of my head, so feel free to correct me, if I'm wrong or miss something.

*** Spoilers ahead ***

(1) Pam - She is Eric's vampire daughter (i.e. he made her a vampire). There were a few moments where she moved at superspeed; she also briefly overpowered and threatened Lafayette in one scene; in the last episode of season 3 an assassin was sent to kill her, but she "took care of him" - offscreen, unfortunately - i.e. we only know about it, because she tells her maker later on (bummer).

Aside from her vampiric powers, she also has the power to be a cold-hearted bitch and spit out snide remarks at every given opportunity. I like her.

(2) Jessica - The cute redhead who Bill was forced to make a vampire in season 1 or the beginning of season 2. She had some more strength moments than Pam but not really much.

In one episode when she visited her parents, she pinned her father to the wall and threatened him. In season 3 she fought some werewolves, but you didn't see much. Right now, I can't think of any other scenes. It's a shame that she didn't explore her powers more after she had been made a vampire; that would have been a nice opportunity for some great scenes ...

(3) Maryann - The villainess of season 2 was a Maenad, a figure from Greek mythology. There was only one noteable scene where she used her physical power, and that was in one of the last episodes of season 2 when she briefly lifted Sookie by the throat. It was only a short scene and not really that impressive.

Her main power was to influence others who became possessed by her and enganged in mindless, but fun, Bacchanalian activities.

(4) Lorena - Bill's maker is a hot, jealous and crazy vampiress with no apparent moral sense. In other words: The perfect candidate for some evil displays of superhuman strength. Of all the female characters she had the most ubermoments (but still not much).

The most interesting scene was when she held Bill captive in a hotel room around episode 8 of season 2. There were a few short moments where she physically overpowered him; she also seemed to enjoy it. In season 3 there is a short scene in which she grabs Sookie and throws her against a wall, but unfortunately she is killed shortly afterwards. There also might have been a neckbreak or two during flashbacks in season 2.

(5) Sophie-Ann - The queen of Louisiana. She is, in my opinion, the hottest of the lot, but had the least amount of ubergirl-time. Actually, close to none. There was one short moment in which she moved at superspeed and threatened Eric in the beginning of season 3 but that was about it. In the final episode Bill challenges the queen and they jump at each other, but the episode left the outcome of the fight as a cliffhanger for the fourth season (*meh*). I hope they will show the fight and not only the aftermath, but we'll find out in a year or so ;-)

Well, that was a lot of text for so little content, but there you go.

The Gates - Season 1

ABC's Desperate Housewives with Vampires aka The Gates aired it's season finale this Sunday. To be honest, I didn't follow the series too closely except for looking for feats of superstrength and the like, so I can't really say if the show was any good.

Anyway, there were only two short superhuman moments, one in episode 9 IIRC, the other in the final episode.

In episode 9 the lovely Katheryn Winnick played a vampire who's out for revenge. In one scene she confronts her former lover who turned her into a vampire and kills him after a short, but sweet fight. She catches a sword with her hands during the fight and breaks off the tip; shortly after she lifts the guy by the collar and carries him to the wall where he is impaled by some kind of wooden stick.

In the final episode a bunch of vampires fought each other, however, only the very first few seconds of the fight were shown, the rest of the actual fighting occured off-screen. During these first few seconds Rhona Mitra grabs another female vamp and throws her several feet through the air onto the windshield of a nearby car. (No caps for this one yet.)

That was about it, which isn't really all that much unfortunately, unless I missed something. Thinking about it, it's still more than True Blood has delivered so far. Let's see if The Gates will get a second season ...

Upcoming - Dark World 3D

This is an upcoming fantasy movie from Russia about a group of students who awaken mystical powers on their travels to Karelia (@Twitch).

The trailer shows matrix-style fights including some women who look like they belong to some priestesses (sp?) clan. One of the female students seems to get possessed by something (@1:08), joins the clan and easily breaks the current javelin record (@1:33). The movie will be released in Russia on October, 10th.

Here is the trailer:

Taoist Wizard (2010)

As my first post in this blog shows a picture of that movie I thought I'd add a post for it ... Taoist Wizard is a Korean Fantasy movie about a Taoist Monk who is somehow transferred to modern times and has to fight some evil guys. (More @IMDB). Btw., as this is mainly a blog about the supergirls in these movies my descriptions of the movies themselves won't get much better than that ;-).

There are two girls with superpowers in the movie. The first one is some evil creature who is disguised as woman and has a few fighting scenes. She's pretty hot imo but could have had more superstrength scenes, but unfortunately the better scenes go to her male pendant who she is with during the movie. Anyway, she snaps off the tip of a sword with one hand, punches a hole in a wall, sends some guys flying, but is eventually killed during a fight with the Taoist Monk.

The second girl becomes possessed at one point during the movie and gains superpowers for a short time. She only has one interesting scene, but that is very good. After becoming possessed she dresses up nicely, steals some high heeled boots and then lifts a guy's car up single handedly. I believe the Taoist Wizard is able to end her possession somehow shortly afterwards.

The effects are pretty well done and it's too bad there weren't more and longer scenes of the girls in the movie. I have posted most of the scenes to my board some time ago.

There is a TV series planned for 2011 that follows the adventures of the Taoist Wizard (Link).

Haunted Madam (1986)

This is one of those weird little Hong Kong horror flicks from the 1980's (Haunted Madam @HKMDB) that seemed to be quite popular in that era. The first half hour of the movie deals with some superpowered evil guy who is eventually killed and from then on possesses the police woman shown in the pics, granting her superpowers and turning her into an unstoppable killing machine.

She does wreak a bit of havoc when being possessed, but as you might have guessed, the movie is really cheesy. In the scene shown in the pics she kills one of the people our evil guy wants to take revenge on -- by kicking and throwing her around a bit and finally stabbing her with the fingers and then triumphantly lifting her overhead, accompanied by some evil manical laughter.

Regarding her powers: She seems more or less indestructible: Bullets don't harm her, blades get bent when someone tries to stab her etc.; she has superstrength and kicks people around like rag dolls, breaks out of some chains people tie her up with ... Eventually her possession ends and the final fight in the last 5 minutes or so features the male villain again, who has come back.

Cheesy but funny nonetheless. I might post the scenes to my board in the near future ...

cnnjack's random ramblings about superhuman girls ...

Taoist Wizard - possessed girl lifting car
This is a blog about girls with superhuman strength or, more generally, superhuman powers, with an emphasis on scenes from movies or TV shows depicting feats of strength. Occasionally, I will report here about my discoveries of such feats while browsing the web or promising upcoming movies or talk about my favorite scenes or just ramble more or less incoherently about whatever comes to mind regarding this blog's topic ... :)

See ya.
