Wir sind die Nacht - Report

Here's a quick rundown of the strength feats of the German Vampire movie "Wir sind die Nacht". Aside from its ubergirl content I think the movie is okay, better than I expected, considering it's a German genre movie, entertaining but still nothing mindblowing. If you live in Germany you might want to check it out in the cinema. Overall I'd rate it 6 out of 10.

Now to the ubergirl stuff:

Spoilers ahead
  • In the opening scene the lead vampiress (Louise) snaps a stewardess's neck; another of the vampires unlocks the exit door of an airplane and then punches it into the night air.
  • Louise sneaks up behind a thug, grabs his neck and breaks it with a short squeeze of her hand (it's indicated only by the sound), then she tosses his body aside.
  • When a police squad wants to arrest Lena (also a vampire) she fights back and quickly overpowers the three guys that rush at her by punching or throwing them through the air. The scene is pretty rushed, i.e. you don't see that much. Still not bad.
  • In a train Louise appears behind a (human) cop and grabs his throat; she seems to be lifting him but it's not really clear. Lena then pushes the cop aside frees him from Louise's grasp.
  • During the final scene Lena attacks Louise: They run up the walls, Lena rips some metal bars off the wall and attacks Louise with them; she is thrown through the air several times by the older vampiress, who also catches her fist and breaks her arm etc. Again the scene is filmed in that fast moving music video style which is too bad because you don't get a clear look at what's going on. Also, it should have been a bit longer in my opinion.
The vampiresses also have healing powers which are shown repeatedly throughout the movie - for example when Lena forces the cop to shoot her and then shows him how her wound heals. And they can run up walls, even walk upside down on the ceiling; it's never explained how or why.

At the moment I can't provide screencaps or even video clips. I might add them as soon as a release finds it's way into the net.

Heroes - Throatlift scene

Hi folks, here is a short scene from the fourth season of Heroes that I stumbled upon recently. I stopped following the series somewhere around the end of season 2 or the beginning of season 3, so I never saw this episode.

In the scene a black nurse (Sylar in disguise) grabs Peter by his throat and lifts him up. It's very short but pretty well done. After she throws him out of the elevator Sylar changes back to his normal self, so that's all there was. Here's the clip:

Upcoming - Vampire Diaries ep. 7

Just a short notice that the trailer of the next episode of The Vampire Diaries shows a quick scene of Katherine lifting another vampire by her throat. As the other guys are trying to kill Katherine there might be some more fighting in the episode. Here is the trailer:

Chinese girls lifting people over their heads

Here are some scenes of Chinese / Hong Kong TV shows in which a girl lifts a guy over her head with no apparent reason for why she is so strong. All scenes are somewhat comedic, with the shows being lighthearted wuxia serials or comedies, and the girls are ordinary girls, i.e. not vampires, robots, possessed, superheroines or anything like that.

The first scene is from a comedy / wuxia series called The Duke of Mount Deer or Royal Tramp from 2008. In the scene a young girl and her master demonstrate some fighting skills to the main character and at the beginning the girl lifts up the old guy with one hand and holds him abover her head.
The second scene is from a recent comedy show called Can't Buy Me Love. A girl and a guy follow a thief through the streets. The guy eventually is able to stop the thief and causes him to fall to the ground. Then the girl arrives and angrily grabs the thief, lifts him over her head and starts to shake him until some piece of jewellery falls out of his pocket.
Number three is from Paladins in Troubled Times. A young girl wants something from a man (I don't remember what) and proposes a challenge: One of them is going to lift something in the room and if the other one can't lift it, he/she looses. She starts and lifts him over her head which he in return obviously can't, so she wins.

I have no idea if there are more scenes like that in the shows mentioned as these feats are somewhat random and each of the series is about 40-50 episodes in length. In one plot summary of the series I read, the girl from Can't Buy Me Love is described as being amazingly strong, but the only ubergirl moment I found (so far) is the one pictured above.

I posted the three scenes to mediafire:

Can't Buy Me Love (ep 10) - overhead lift
Paladins in Troubled Times (ep 3) - overhead lift
Royal Tramp 2008 (ep 18) - overhead lift

Lost Boys: The Thirst - Short update

Not much to report on this one. There's one brief scene in which a female vampire jumps about 20 feet onto a stage and then throws a guy about the same distance. She is killed a few moments later. There were also some minor feats like jumping out of an airplane or running along a wall but that was about it.

The throw is here:

Lost Boys 3 - Throw

Smallville Isis - Report

In yesterday's episode of Smallville Lois is possessed by the Egyptian Goddess Isis. Isis wants to reawaken her beloved Osiris and finds Clark to be a suitable host for her husband (and brother).

What I never really understood about Smallville is how they structure their episodes. So the episode is called "Isis", right? Lois' possession happens about 10 minutes into the episode and ends 30 minutes in. That means only half of the episode is even devoted to it's main plot ... Anyway.

There are a few brief, noteworthy moments: When she enters a warehouse, Lois opens and bends a metal gate as if it was made out of cardboard, she pushes the guard that rushes towards her and sends him flying 20 feet through the air, and she rips off the lid of a wooden box. Later she pushes / throws Clark onto a sarcophagus and uses her telekinesis (?) powers once or twice against Green Arrow.

All in all I didn't find it too exciting, but still better regarding ubergirl-moments than the recent Supergirl episode. I've created clips of the scenes I found interesting, including the part when Lois becomes possessed:

Enter warehouse (steel bend, push guard)
Push Clark

Upcoming movies (cont.)

Here are some more ...

Lost Boys 3 - The Thirst - A made for DVD sequel of Lost Boys. As this is a vampire movie, obviously there's a chance of some female vampires having a strength feat or two. It will be released on October, 12th. Here's the trailer:

My Babysitter's a Vampire - This is a TV movie that will air today on Teletoon. The babysitter vampire throws a punch at some guy sending him flying; maybe there will be more. It looks like a horror comedy aimed at a younger audience.

The Boy who cried Werewolf - Again, this is a "horror" comedy, similar in tone to the movie above, this time about a girl who is infected by werewolf blood and slowly transforms into one. She shows some enhanced acrobatic abilities, but not much more ... The movie airs on October, 23rd on Nick.

Upcoming movies

Here is just a random collection of upcoming movies that might be worth checking out for the odd superstrength scene:

Season of the Witch - A fantasy horror movie with Nicolas Cage about a bunch of knights who are to escort a witch somewhere and excorcise her evil powers (or something like that). After it spent over a year in post production hell finally it's release date has been set to January 7th.

The trailer shows the witch punching a knight through the air ...

Hisss - An Indian horror movie about a beautiful snake goddess. It's not really likely that there will be any strength scenes, but Mallika Sherawat is hot and I'll check it out nonetheless. Release date is October, 15th

Wir sind die Nacht - A German vampire movie about four female vampires who roam the night clubs of Berlin. The book, which is based on the movie's screenplay, had some superstrength moments, but I'm not sure how much will be featured in the movie. The trailer doesn't look like there will be much action in it. It will be released in Germany on October, 30th.

The Vampire Diaries - Season 2 (so far)

We're five episodes into season 2 and so far there are two recurring female vampire characters. One of them, Katherine, is supposedly the main villainess of this season and the "twin" of the show's female lead. The other one, Caroline (see pics), was turned into a vampire at the end of the first episode by Katherine.

Caroline had a few uber-moments: In episode 2 she pushed a guy, sending him flying a couple of feet, she overpowered two of her victims, moved at superspeed; in the last episode there is a short fight between her and a guy, which she wins quite easily. She kicks him through the air against a tree.

The other vampiress didn't do that much so far. I believe in one episode she broke free of some chains and pushed another vampire away.

I read some spoilers that there will be a big fight betweeen these two vamps at some point during this season. I'll keep you posted ... In the meantime, here are two of the scenes I mentioned:

The Vampire Diaries 2x02 Throw
The Vampire Diaries 2x05 Fight

Dark World 3D - Report

At least, she's cute ...
The Russian fantasy flick Dark World 3D was released Thursday this week and I had a chance *cough* to watch it. Sadly, there weren't any noteworthy ubergirl scenes in the movie except for little bits and pieces. I already mentioned the spear throw that is shown in the trailer; aside from that there is a bit of fantasy-style fighting towards the end with characters floating through the air. The fights are mostly sword fights and filmed in a way that might work in 3D but just comes off as hard to watch and confusing in 2D in my opinion.

In the movie the female lead gets possessed by some dark force inside an ancient shield and later on joins a tribe of witches in their fight against the villain who tries to reawaken the ancient dark force. At least that's what I could make of it.

Smallville - Supergirl / Isis (upcoming)

Well, Smallville's third episode, titled "Supergirl", has aired yesterday and it was pretty underwhelming, as I expected to be honest. There was one scene with Kara floating in mid-air holding a big sign aloft but that was about it. There's really not much more to write about as I don't follow the series and am only interested in ubergirl moments ...

The episode in two weeks is called "Isis" and in it Lois will be possessed by the Egyptian Goddess. I guess there will be one or two strength scenes in the episode, so it might be worth checking out. I will report back as soon as it has aired.
